OVERVIEW
Valoa is a digital platform designed to raise awareness, provide counseling, and enable safe reporting of sexual harassment and violence in Indonesia. The app was created as a response to alarming statistics and social conversations around the lack of accessible and trusted support systems, particularly for Gen Z. As a final project, this case focuses on how we translated a sensitive social issue into an empowering, trauma-informed experience.
I was involved as a UX researcher, UX writer, and UI designer, working from research to design execution, including building a design system, writing in-app copy, and delivering a high-fidelity prototype.
design approach
We began by conducting qualitative research—interviewing Gen Z users with varying levels of awareness about sexual violence. These insights were validated by secondary sources, including INFID surveys and social listening on Twitter, which revealed barriers like fear of judgment, lack of access to safe reporting channels, and the need for guided, anonymous support.
From this foundation, we built Valoa with three core pillars: Education, Counseling, and Reporting—each backed by a system of features tailored to user emotional states, comprehension levels, and urgency of needs. Visual and content direction emphasized clarity, warmth, and non-intimidating tones to create an inclusive and emotionally safe space.
Key moves
• Microcopy and UX writing were tailored to address sensitive emotional states, balancing clarity with compassion, especially in onboarding and reporting flows.
• We designed a flexible design system that aligned with psychological comfort: soft purples, clear icons, and readable typography to reduce cognitive load.
• Created counseling flows that match users with professionals based on their preferences, ensuring emotional safety through chat-based sessions.
• Built a reporting feature that connects users to Komnas HAM and Komnas Perempuan, designed with anonymity and urgency in mind.
• Iterated based on usability testing with 18–26-year-olds, achieving an average task success rate above 90% and high satisfaction scores across key user flows.
